American Idol: David Archuleta to Channel Chris Brown Tonight

We're down to the final 3 on American Idol, and it is the night where the contestants are asked to perform 3 songs. One is chosen by the producers. One is chosen by the judges, and the third they chose on their own. Probably the most interesting choice of the night that has been revealed is David Archuleta's personal selection. He will perform Chris Brown's recent smash hit "With You." Picking a song by one of today's hottest artists would seem a good option on the familiarity scale. However, all of those teens who swoon when they hear Brown's voice will likely be exacting in their opinions of Archuleta's cover. The performances begin tonight, May 13, 2008, on Fox Television at 8 p.m. ET.

Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" Continues to Smash Chart Records

Late last year I reported on Leona Lewis and her hit single "Bleeding Love" as something special. At that point, it had not yet been released in the US. It did turn out to be the biggest selling single of the year in the UK and a clear announcement that Leona Lewis was determined to be one of the top new female pop singers in the world.

Some 5-6 months later it is clear that Lewis has conquered the US as well. "Bleeding Love" has now been sitting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 longer (4 weeks) than any previous hit by a British female artist. However, that's not where the records stop. The song now holds the title for the most spins in a week on the pop radio singles chart in the US. Leona Lewis' album Spirit is also the first debut album by a British solo artist to ever hit #1 in the US. It is also worth noting that "Bleeding Love" has had its fair share of chart competition holding off current hits by major artists such as Mariah Carey, Madonna, and Usher.

Frank Sinatra, One of Top Pop Artists of All Time, Honored With Stamp and New Collection of Hits

Tomorrow, May 13, 2008, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a 42-cent stamp to honor Frank Sinatra, one of the greatest entertainers, and top pop artists, of all time. Connecting with this occasion, 10 years after Sinatra's death, Rhino Records is releasing Nothing But the Best, a 22 track collection of some of his most enduring tracks fully remixed and remastered from the original master tapes. An unreleased version of "Body and Soul" with a new instrumental arrangement will be included as well. This new set of classic songs hits stores tomorrow as well.

Frank Sinatra is one of the top pop artists of all time. He first hit the charts as a solo artist in 1942. He had 40 top 10 pop hits before the beginning of the rock era in 1955. From 1955 to 1980 Frank Sinatra continued to hit the charts. He had an incredible 68 additional chart appearances including 10 more top 10 smashes. That leaves Sinatra with a total of 50 top 10 pop hits. By comparison, Madonna leads the rock era tally with a mere 37 top 10's.

For a taste of this incredible performer, check out video of a performance of "That's Life," a top 10 hit from 1966, below:
